Super Science Club Facilitators

Position:         Super Science Club (SSC) Facilitators

Reports to:     SSC Program Specialist and Director of Community Outreach  

Science World British Columbia is a charitable organization that engages British Columbians in science and inspires future science and technology leadership throughout our province.

Position Description:

The Super Science Club (SSC) is an award winning, innovative and exciting after school program at underserved elementary schools in Vancouver. It provides fun and stimulating interactive science activities to help inspire at-risk children to have fun with science and develop critical thinking skills. Working closely with the SSC Program Specialist and the SSC Lead Facilitator, the SSC Facilitators deliver programs at the schools for nine sessions in the fall term and for nine sessions in the spring term.

This is an afternoon part-time position requiring 4 to 12 hours per week for two 12 week terms (Fall and Spring). The normal days and hours are Monday to Thursday 1:30 to 5:30pm (and 1-4pm on Home Learner Fridays). Our fall term begins in mid-September (with training) through to mid-December. Our spring term begins in mid-January through to May. Shifts are dependent on school operations and are not assigned during public school holidays (Spring Break, Winter Break & Professional Development days).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide students with a fun, awesome, wow, memorable, “out of home” hands-on science experience
  • Present on a pre-planned science topics and facilitate activities for grade 1 – 7 students
  • Provide general classroom management (maintaining a safe, fair and inclusive learning environment)
  • Prepare, clean-up and restock all materials and resources required to deliver the program
  • Participate in a daily debrief with your team and document session feedback
  • Contribute collaboratively to the constant improvement of this important program and your own program delivery performance
  • Optional opportunity to present and help with the Home Learners Science Club (4 positions available on Fridays)
  • Other duties as required


  • Must be self-motivated, flexible, enthusiastic, responsible and able to perform before audiences of varying size and composition
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are a necessity
  • Must possess a keen interest in science and hands-on education
  • Experience working with children in an informal education setting
  • Preference given to applicants who possess a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license. Successful candidates will be asked to provide a current and clean driver’s abstract for examination and approval
  • Must be able to lift 12 kg
  • Must be available 4-12 hours a week
  • A first aid certificate with CPR-C and AED considered an asset
